Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
- Asparagus supplies remain extremely limited and are not meeting the current demand.
- The Caborca Valley has been experiencing unusually cold temperatures, with field temperatures dropping to 34-35°F. These temperatures are atypical for March in Caborca, and the region has already recorded 12 days of extreme cold or frost this season, a phenomenon not seen in the past three years.
- Now, warmer temperatures in Caborca have led to even lower yields, with quality issues such as seeding, spreading, and flabbiness becoming evident.
- The Easter Pull heavily depends on the Caborca region to fill the pipeline.
- The shortage of quality raw material from Caborca is creating a market where demand far exceeds supply, especially as this week marks the peak of loading for the Easter holiday.
Expectations:
- Mexican supplies are expected to improve in the coming weeks from the San Luis Rio Colorado region, before gradually tapering off in early to mid-May.
- Peruvian supplies will begin to increase on April 18th, with steady weekly growth until they coincide with domestic production in the second week of May.
- Domestic production in Washington will commence the week of April 14th, but will be too late for Easter. Washington’s production is anticipated to last until early to mid-June.
- Indiana will begin production this week, though at a slower pace, making it the first Midwest region to start. Michigan will follow, starting in late April to early May.
- Canada is projected to begin the week of May 5th, with production expected to last until early July, assuming favorable weather conditions.
