Asparagus
Asparagus

Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
Asparagus supplies coming out of Peru and Mexico continue to be extremely tight at the worst time of year.
Mexican production has slowed way down due to the cooler weather. The holiday promotions and more demand has also caused this market to be extremely volatile.
Peruvian production has been fairly low all season because of the effects of El Nino and decreasing further now due to seasonality. With fields in Peru transitioning from south to north look for supplies to continue to be limited for the next few weeks.
Expectations:
- The Asparagus market will be volatile for the next 3-4 weeks.
- With the forecast of wetter than normal conditions in Peru, supplies to remain below normal levels through December.
- Peruvian supplies should improve in about 3 weeks as the northern fields get going.
- All sizes, especially XL’s and Jumbo’s will be extremely limited for 3-4 weeks.
- The expectation is that supply moving forward will be about 30-40% less than the last three to four weeks.
Mid to late January is when Caborca gets really going with good supplies in time for Valentine’s Day promotions
