Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
Asparagus Market Update
Mexican Asparagus:
Supply remains tight due to strong demand from seasonal promotions, Canadian Thanksgiving, and logistical challenges in Peru. Southern Baja yields are down as much as 40% following hurricane-related disruptions, while Northern Baja is nearing the end of its season. Sonora is showing better quality and is expected to stabilize by mid-October. Overall, expect limited availability from Mexico over the next 7-10 days, with improvement anticipated by the week of October 13.
Peruvian Asparagus:
A recent vessel breakdown left 50 containers behind, prompting costly air shipments and delayed arrivals. This has created short-term market volatility: high-priced air product this week, shortages next week, and increased supply thereafter. Southern Peru (Ica/Cañete) is winding down by mid-November, while Northern regions (Trujillo) will ramp up through December into January. Quality remains mixed. This Friday’s vessel will arrive with only 45 containers - down nearly 35% from last week.
Outlook:
Expect limited supply on both coasts heading into next week. Conditions should begin to improve by the end of next week
