Dear Ole Tyme Produce Customers:

Broccolini/Sweet Baby Broccoli/Artisan Broccoli supplies continue to be extremely tight. THIS IS AN INDUSTRY-WIDE SHORTAGE.

Grown mostly in Salinas, the continuous unseasonably cold weather along with rain this week will continue to slow the growth process and result in even lower yields.

Expectations:

All suppliers to have limited supplies through the month of March due to the cold and rain. Suppliers will be struggling to cover averages. Some suppliers as low as 30% coverage.
The month of March is expected to get more rain in the Salinas Valley growing region. This will further produce low yields, slow harvest and quality issues.
Expect purple cast going forward (see pic attached). This is a common and natural attribute, especially in the winter months. It is not a defect and does not impact quality. Temps in the high 40s to low 50s last week and this week. Rains expected all this week.
