Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
Cabbage supplies are beginning to show the effects of increased insect activity and mildew pressure in the fields. Diamondback moth larvae have been observed feeding primarily on the outer wrapper leaves. These leaves are removed during harvest, and minimal damage is currently being reported at the receiver level. Growers are also seeing more seeder core in the fields, though coring during harvest has been effective and very little residual core is making it into finished product.
Overall quality remains good, but mildew pressure and insect activity are contributing to slightly lower field yields. Suppliers will be monitoring harvest averages closely as demand increases ahead of the St. Patrick’s Day pull.
In addition, cabbage supplies from the Southeast have tightened following recent freeze conditions, further limiting overall market availability. Combined with the seasonal holiday demand, supplies are expected to remain snug in the near term.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your Sales Representative.
Thanks,
Ole Tyme Produce
