Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
Unusually heavy rain and prolonged cold temperatures across key California carrot-growing regions, including Bakersfield, continue to create extremely muddy field conditions that are limiting harvest activity and reducing yields. In some fields currently being harvested, nearly 40% of the crop has been left unharvested, and overall tonnage per acre has declined as growers work to avoid excessive soil contamination and quality issues.
Cello carrots and jumbos have been the most impacted, followed by baby carrots, due to longer exposure to these weather conditions. As a result, prorations are expected to continue for the next 5–6 weeks, with the potential for deeper prorates on cellos and jumbos at times. Snack packs and school program items will also be affected, while allocations are being carefully managed to minimize disruption and keep orders moving.
Looking ahead, winter production in alternate growing regions, including the Imperial Valley and the Southeast, is scheduled to begin in mid-February and remains on track. While initial yields may be lighter than normal, this transition is expected to gradually improve supply conditions.
Teams across the supply chain are actively managing harvest schedules, transportation, and allocations in real time, and updates will continue as conditions evolve.

Thanks,
