Heat Advisory Salinas Valley
Heat Advisory Salinas Valley
Fri, Oct 6th, 2023
Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
WEATHER ALERT: The Salinas Valley is going through a significant heat wave. The southern Salinas Valley has seen temps hovering around 100 degrees for a couple of days. Extreme temperatures will cause diminishing quality, yields, and availability. Coastal daytime highs have reached in the low 90s and inland highs up to 98-101 degrees. Overnight lows are on the warmer side and have been in the mid-60s to low 70s. Expect these high temps to last through today.
- Warm weather will cause heat-related issues:
- Decreased shelf life.
- Internal burn, sun scald and growth cracks and seeders in iceberg lettuce.
- Shorter harvest times.
- Elevated insect pressure.
COMMODITIES AFFECTED:
- Row Crops (Iceberg, Romaine, Broccoli & Cauliflower) including tender leaf items (Parsley, Kale & Cilantro)
If you have any questions, please reach out to your Sales Representative.
Thanks,
