Romaine Hearts

Romaine Hearts

Thurs, Sept 14th, 2023

Dear Ole Tyme Customers:

UPDATE: INSV has started to affect Romaine Heart fields in the Salinas Valley. These fields are infected with thrips migrating from infected host plants. INSV can have dark spotting and yellowing, which resembles the effects of sunburn on the leaves. The plants will wilt or collapse making this truly a complicated pest/disease issue for farmers. Please see pics below taken this morning.

Expectations:

  1. Romaine Heart supplies will be limited for the next 3 weeks and suppliers will be watching #s.
  2. Trucks may want to load in Santa Maria. INSV is not being reported from suppliers in this region.

Expect markets to be active for the next 3 weeks at a minimum.
