Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
We wanted to inform you about the current situation with tomato prices, which are rising rapidly due to high demand and limited supply across the country.
East Coast:
- Hurricane Helene has severely impacted supplies in South Georgia and Northern Florida.
- Quincy usually helps supply the Ruskin/Palmetto region, but as the Florida season runs from October to November, expect a drop in availability in December when demand shifts to Mexico.
- Hurricane Milton has also affected crops in the Ruskin/Palmetto area; we’ll have more information on the extent of this damage next week.
West Coast:
- The California summer harvest is concluding, with limited availability of larger tomatoes.
- Baja supplies are low due to heavy demand, leading to daily sell-outs.
- Tomato crossings through McAllen are also reduced because of weather issues in Central Mexico.
- Expect light supplies of romas and grape tomatoes in Nogales in December, with larger round tomatoes not picking up until January, depending on weather conditions.
Expectations:
- We anticipate high prices and limited supplies until January, when the Sinaloa tomato season begins to ramp up.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your Sales Representative.
Thanks,
