Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
The tomato market is entering a period of significant supply disruption and heightened volatility, with pricing escalating rapidly across all categories.
February freeze damage in Florida resulted in substantial bloom drop and continues to impact production. These challenges have been compounded by ongoing disease pressure and adverse weather conditions in Mexico’s Sinaloa region. As a result, availability is tightening across the board, with the most severe shortages expected over the next 3–5 weeks.
Roma tomatoes are expected to be the most heavily impacted, while round and snacking varieties are experiencing declining volumes and inconsistent quality. Market conditions are not anticipated to stabilize until late April to early May, weather permitting, as new growing regions begin to come online.
Production in Jalisco is projected to begin its Roma season in mid‑April, followed by Baja in May, with Florida expected to contribute meaningful volume by May.
Proactive planning and flexibility will be critical throughout this period.
Roma Tomatoes
Supply is extremely limited. Substitution with round tomatoes is recommended where possible through mid‑April.
Round & Snacking Tomatoes
Volumes from Sinaloa are declining sharply, potentially by 50% or more. Snacking tomatoes — particularly grape varieties — are expected to remain inconsistent in both supply and quality through late April or early May.
Market Expectations
Short supply and elevated markets are expected to persist through April. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as market visibility improves.
