Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
California Oranges (Valencia)
- Size Availability: 88ct fruit is most available; smaller sizes (113ct & 138ct) are very limited due to high school demand.
- Expect suppliers to substitute larger sizes to fulfill orders.
- Pricing Trends: Prices for 88ct are rising as smaller sizes become scarce.
- Coloring Process: Fruit is undergoing 24–48 hours of gassing to enhance color; warmer weather is causing some regreening, which may extend gas times.
- Quality: Generally fair, with mostly choice grade fruit. Shippers are working hard to remove compromised fruit.
- Taste: Brix levels around 13—fruit is eating well.
- Looking Ahead: Domestic Navel orange season expected to begin late October. Updates will follow.
California Lemons
- Market Conditions: Strong across all sizes.
- Growing Region: Only District 2 (Ventura/Oxnard) is producing currently.
- Smaller sizes (165ct and below) are extremely limited.
- Crop is dominated by choice grade; fancy grade is scarce due to coastal growing conditions.
- Quality: Fair, with reports of soft fruit, early decay, and scarring—typical for this season.
- Pricing Outlook: Expect higher prices than last summer due to increased demand and fewer imports.
- Order Planning:
- Lead time is critical—please place orders 3–4 days in advance.
- Contracts take priority; same/next-day orders depend on availability.
Offshore Lemons
- Import Volumes: Light arrivals on both coasts.
